OSINT Investigation from Picture
For this task, I was given an image of a diplomatic event but did not have any metadata or location details. Using only visual clues in the image, I had to geolocate the exact place where the event took place, and verify my findings.
This image was the starting point
As a starting point for this task, I had already recognized that the man on the right side of the picture is the Turkish President Recep Erdogan, so this gave me a starting advantage in my search.
The next step, was determining who is the man on the left side of the picture. Luckily, I have his country's flag in the background. A quick google search for " Blue flag with a white star" reveled that the flag belongs to Somalia. Great!
This picture looks like it was from an official diplomatic meeting, which means there is probably a few of news articles that covered it. The next them was to search for key words : " Erdogan meets with Somali". Right away, I got results for articles talking about a meeting between Erdogan and the Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, which took place at the Presidential Palace in Ankara.
Highlighted in yellow is the same door we can see in the initial picture. This is the entrance where various state visits and official meetings are held.
To confirm my findings, I searched for this location on google maps. Comparing the pictures found on google maps to this picture, I can verify that the door shown on this image, is indeed located at the Ankara Presidential Palace. We can see that the exact geolocation of this place is: Beştepe, Cumhurbaşkanlığı Blv, 06560 Yenimahalle/Ankara, Türkiye. Coordinates 39.9308°N 32.7989°E.
A quick google search for "Ankara Presidential Palace Door" gives us multiple pictures where we can see and confirm that this is the same place pictured above.
